Our InstructorsLearn the exquisite art of Chicago Blues from musicians who have been educated in Chicago Blues on the south and west side Chicago bandstands, from the architects of this traditional art form. At the Blues Workshop, you will be learning from real Blues artists — Chicago Blues musicians who learned their craft on Chicago's south and west side bandstands, touring busses and recording studios.
Bill Lupkin - Blues Harp & Blues Ensembles
Blue Bella recording artist Bill Lupkin is a true modern-day blues legend in his own right. Bill cut his teeth in the 60's on Chicago's south side, replacing Little Walter in the Aces, playing with Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Jimmy Rogers, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Young and The Aces (Little Walter). Bill has recorded most notably with Jimmy Rogers, Freddie King and Nick Moss. Bill currently tours and records with his own band The Bill Lupkin Blues Band and teaches blues harmonica to aspiring blues harp students.
Tom Castonzo - Blues Guitar & Blues Ensembles
Tom Castonzo is a Berklee alumnus and learned to play blues on the smokey bandstands on Chicago's south and west side blues bars. Tom has performed with many blues, roots, and jazz artists including Bill Lupkin, Ellis Hall, Willie"Big Eyes" Smith, Buddy Guy, Little Smokey Smothers, Fenton Robinson, Ken Vandermark, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Big Time Sarah, Buddy Scott, Nate Turner, Sam Good, and Lefty Diz.
